Owners asking recently

What we keep hearing: owners want one set of group numbers (profit, balance sheet and cash) across every business, with the money moving between them taken out. Every business is its own subscription in Xero and QuickBooks, so costs and logins add up. People end up in spreadsheets even after buying an add-on, and some are now trying AI connectors.

Questions owners asked

A customer paid our other company by mistake. How do we record it?

Keep the invoice; it's still a real sale. In the company that got the money, record it in an intercompany account as money owed to the selling company. In the selling company, mark the invoice paid against the matching intercompany account. Then either transfer the money back, or leave the balance and settle it with the next transfer between the two companies.

How we pick

First Contact is a small marketing team. We aren't paid by any tool on this page and these aren't endorsements. We list newer or niche tools that solve the problem owners are asking about, using only what each one says on its own site. We don't list the big names (Xero, QuickBooks and so on); you already know them.

Not accounting advice. Talk to your accountant or bookkeeper before you change how your group's books are kept.
